This is so true. If I had a dollar for every “why don’t you just” suggestion I’ve received, I’d be rich. But telling me that I should be grateful for what I have, or go out for a run, or/or/or, without troubling to try to understand what is actually happening for me, is really suggesting that I’m not trying hard enough. And this, as Allie Brosh says brilliantly, is like telling a man with no arms to punch himself so his hands will grow back.
